Train to Teach
Pickwick Academy Trust, in partnership with The School of Teaching and Learning (STL SCITT) – formerly OTT SCITT, is at the forefront of exceptional school-centred teacher training across our region. With OTT SCITT recently awarded Ofsted exceptional gradings across all areas of both the primary and secondary teacher training programmes offered, the meticulous leadership, well-designed curriculum, and the first-rate way in which trainees are prepared for the realities of teaching were all highlighted. We have two training hubs in Wiltshire – North Wiltshire (Corsham) and South Wiltshire (Salisbury) as part of the STL SCITT training network. With over fifty placement schools across the county, and in neighbouring counties, we can provide placements which are local to our trainee teachers.
We offer primary and secondary tuition-fee teacher training courses, both full-time and part-time routes, and with the choice of studying for the academic qualification (PGCE) alongside Qualified Teacher Status training. In addition to our core Primary 5-11 programme, primary trainee teachers can choose instead to follow one of our enhanced programmes in either Early Years 3-7 or Primary SEND. For secondary trainee teachers, a wide range of subjects are available in which to train. You can find out more about all the programmes we offer here.
For aspiring trainee teachers who already have significant classroom experience, we offer the Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship (PGTA). This is a one-year, full-time employment-based teacher training route leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). It blends in-school experience and structured curriculum learning.
