Alderbury & West Grimstead CE Primary School gets strongest Ofsted report since 2012
The report celebrates pupils’ excellent behaviour, with inspectors noting that they “act kindly, move calmly and speak politely” in classrooms where disruption is rare. Pupils achieve well across the curriculum, with outcomes in reading, writing and mathematics exceeding national averages.
Warm and positive relationships between staff and pupils were highlighted as a particular strength.
Inspectors confirmed that safeguarding standards are fully met, noting that leaders have created “an open culture in which safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility”. Inspectors also commented that staff “get to know pupils and build warm, trusting relationships”, helping pupils to feel safe, valued, listened to and supported.
Provision for pupils with SEND was praised for enabling them to learn successfully alongside their peers through carefully adapted teaching and effective practical support. The school’s personal development offer also received strong recognition. Pupils benefit from first-aid training, therapy dogs, chaplain guidance and a wide range of clubs, helping them to develop both confidence and character. Early years provision was described as calm, nurturing and welcoming, with children settling quickly and becoming valued members of the school community.
Leaders, including Pickwick Academy Trust, were recognised for driving steady improvement and maintaining a clear vision for the school’s future, with inspectors noting that “a strong sense of care and teamwork runs through the school”. Parents spoke highly of the school’s direction and the dedication shown by staff.
Headteacher, Emily Woolf, said: “We are delighted that the efforts of the team have been recognised through such a positive report and that we were able to showcase our wonderful school.”
