Celebrating 60 Years of Swimming at St George's Swim Show and Gala
What a fantastic day we had at our Swimming Gala and Swim Show at St George's on Monday 13th July! The weather was beautiful, if a little too hot at times. The children had a wonderful time and were delighted to showcase their impressive swimming skills. It was wonderful to see their confidence, determination and enjoyment in the water, as well as the encouragement and support they showed one another throughout the event.
This year was particularly special as we celebrated 60 years of having a swimming pool at St George's School. As we reflected on this milestone, it really brought home what an incredible resource our pool has been for generations of children and families.
Over the last six decades, thousands of children have learned this essential life skill in our pool. In fact, some of the children who learned to swim here are now grandparents of children attending St George's today! Even some of our staff first took to the water in the very same pool—Mrs Moores being a wonderful example. It is a reminder of just how deeply the pool is woven into the history and life of our school community.
While we are incredibly fortunate to have such a fantastic facility, we know there is more we could do to make the most of it. The recent hot weather highlighted the need for additional shade around the pool area, and we would also love to explore the possibility of installing a cover or even a roof to extend its use throughout the year.
Just imagine being able to use the pool in all seasons, giving even more children the opportunity to develop their swimming skills and enjoy the many benefits that swimming brings!
Here's to the next 60 years of swimming at St George's!
Well done to Sandways who were the overall winners for a third year running.
