The Adventures of Tap and Switch Origin Story
As part of the Trust’s commitment to collaboration, the Deputy Heads now meet three times a year in person in their hubs. One of the agenda items is always pupil collaboration.
At the first meeting of the North Dorset hub deputy meeting, the deputies thought it would be a great idea to write a collective story for World Book Day.
The schools then spent part of World Book Day writing their chapter, following on from the first school’s contribution.
The resulting story, Tap and Switch, was the final product of all this hard work.
One school had a contact with a local author/illustrator, Kathryn Lamb, who kindly agreed to do the illustrations for the story.
Ray Picton, Director of Education (North Dorset Hub), comments "What I find so inspirational about this project is not only the spirit of collaboration but also the dedication of all the staff and pupils involved in this project to complete the story.
Also, with writing so much at the forefront of the educational agenda with the Writing Framework it is great to see the creativity of writing promoted so well in this project. We spend a lot of time in schools focusing on foundational skills such as handwriting, grammar etc, but no one actually chooses a book for its excellent use of semi colons.
Finally, I wanted to say a big thank you to all the staff and pupils involved in a project that for me is what education and being part of a Trust is all about. I also wanted to thank Kathryn for giving her time to this project. The illustrations are utterly brilliant.
I cannot wait to read the sequel. Or see the film adaptation!"
